A Window Into Collaborative Care — Reflections from Renata Cressoni Gomes, RP

At Psychotherapy Matters, we often hear from our members about how meaningful it is to collaborate with psychiatrists directly through the Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration (PMVC) platform. For Registered Psychotherapist Renata Cressoni Gomes, the experience has been nothing short of insightful and invaluable.
Renata, who trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy in Brazil and now works with teens, young adults, and midlife adults in Ontario, has built a practice rooted in depth, curiosity, and connection. Her clinical focus includes childhood and adolescent difficulties, relationship issues, and personality concerns—all areas where collaborative care can offer clients greater clarity and support.
Seeing the Whole Picture—Together
When asked what it’s like to work with psychiatrists in our network, Renata reflected on the difference it makes to be part of the consultation process:
“When you don’t have that opportunity to be in the appointment, you only get what the client relays about it. And very rarely do you get to share your observations or your concerns.”
With PMVC, therapists like Renata are present during psychiatric consultations. This means that the psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and client can work together in real-time, building a shared understanding of the client’s needs. Renata especially values the chance to witness how psychiatrists ask questions, sometimes highlighting aspects she hadn’t yet explored.
“It’s always very interesting for me… to better understand my clients.”
A Launchpad for Learning and Growth
The collaboration doesn’t end with the appointment. Renata noted that the psychiatrists often offer suggestions for the therapeutic process itself. These moments have inspired her to explore new training opportunities and deepen her clinical approach.
“A number of times I was given suggestions that were really good, really interesting, that led me to take trainings or learn more about things I didn’t know yet.”
This kind of interdisciplinary dialogue not only benefits the therapist—it enhances care for clients by creating a more cohesive, informed treatment plan.
Beyond Collaboration—Community Support
While the core of PMVC is about bringing psychiatrists and psychotherapists together for timely, effective consultations, we’re also a community. Renata mentioned that although she didn’t expect major referral volume from her directory listing, she has appreciated the quality of the connections.
“I always liked the clients I got from you. So I am generally happy with the experience so far.”
At Psychotherapy Matters, we believe that collaboration makes care stronger—and Renata’s reflections are a powerful reminder of why we do this work.
