Become a Psychotherapy Matters member and help shape the future of collaborative mental health care in Ontario
Psychotherapy Matters offers two ways to be involved. You can join for visibility, connection, and access to selected resources through our Directory Only Membership, or you can become part of Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration (PMVC) and participate in a more integrated collaborative care model.
Whether you are looking to grow your practice, strengthen your profile, or participate in coordinated mental health care, there is a membership option designed to meet you where you are.
A connected approach to mental health care
Psychotherapy Matters was built on the idea that mental health care works better when it is less fragmented and more connected.
For therapists who want to participate more fully in that model, PMVC Membership offers a practical way to do so while remaining grounded in ongoing therapeutic work.
Frequently asked questions
What is Psychotherapy Matters?
We link therapists and their clients with psychiatrists/mental health physicians and family doctors through a secure online care platform, known as our Virtual Collaboration program. In our innovative model, psychiatrists/mental health physicians do not perform psychotherapy. Instead, registered psychotherapy providers who are members of PMVC (Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration) provide psychotherapy and manage the client’s mental health care. With the client’s consent, psychotherapy providers can request a referral from the family physician and book a psychiatric consultation. Psychotherapy providers attend all consultations to remain updated on the client’s care. Psychiatrists/mental health physicians can offer medication recommendations (that the family doctor can refill and monitor) and clinical diagnoses.
Aside from our Collaborative Care, as a Psychotherapy Matters member you will be added to our online directory to allow clients and referring family doctors to find you. Additionally, you will have access to educational resources including our Collaborative Care Conferences, free (or discounted) training programs, and a collaborative psychotherapy resource bank for therapists (including information on psychoeducation, marketing, psychopharmacology, assessment tools, and more), as well as our monthly newsletters.
How does Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration work?
PMVC is a therapist-inclusive collaborative care model in which psychiatric consultation is integrated into ongoing psychotherapy. The therapist identifies the clinical question, attends the consultation, and remains involved afterward so that recommendations can be understood, applied, and carried forward in treatment. The result is a more connected and clinically useful form of psychiatric consultation. Read more about how the model works for therapists
