Help your patient find a therapist

Download our Patient Info PDF with information about how PMVC works, and how your patients can find a therapist.

Looking for mental health care matched to your patients’ needs?

As a primary care provider, you’re often left navigating a fragmented and under-resourced mental health system. Your patients need timely, high-quality psychotherapy and psychiatric consultation, but what they usually get is a confusing maze of waitlists, mismatched services, and drop-in solutions with poor follow-up.

Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration (PMVC) is changing how mental health care is delivered in Ontario.

Collaborative mental health care that works. Here’s how:

You refer your patient to a therapist in the PMVC network.

The therapist delivers high-quality, personalized psychotherapy, and acts as the patient’s care navigator and case manager.

If a psychiatrist consultation becomes necessary, the therapist coordinates and participates in areal-time virtual session with a PMVC psychiatrist and the patient.

You receive a clear, OHIP-funded consult note with treatment recommendations, fast.

You remain in the loop throughout, ensuring continuity of care.

What PMVC has solved

Matching patients to appropriate services

PMVC ensures patients are matched with therapists based on clinical need—not guesswork. Every therapist is trained in Collaborative Care and equipped to guide the treatment pathway.

Enabling timely psychotherapy

Most PMVC therapists offer services covered by extended benefits or on a sliding scale. This makes it easier for your patients to get meaningful, ongoing care—without the rigidity or dropout risks seen in many public programs.

Making psychiatric consultation available when it’s needed

Because of our efficient, triadic care model, most psychiatric consults happen within a few weeks. Patients don’t need to wait months or bounce between systems. The therapist and psychiatrist collaborate directly in-session.

Why does your patient need to work with a PMVC therapist to consult a PMVC psychiatrist?

Every psychiatric consultation occurs with the referring PMVC therapist present. This ensures that:

All direct psychiatric consultations are funded through OHIP. Fees for the psychotherapist are clearly outlined, frequently reimbursable through extended health benefits, and structured to allow flexibility when appropriate.

With PMVC, you’re not just referring a patient. You’re activating a whole team.

Support our advocacy for provincial funding of the Ontario Psychotherapy Benefits Program (OPBP)—a proposed initiative modelled on the Ontario Drug Benefit Program. This program would fund the work of therapists in the PMVC model and help ensure that high-quality psychotherapy is more widely available to those who need it.
