Collaborative consultation with a psychiatrist
for better mental health
Your therapist made a smart choice by joining Psychotherapy Matters
You already have a therapist but you might benefit from the insights of a psychiatrist.
Your psychotherapist is a trained professional who uses psychological methods, particularly talk therapy, to help you manage and overcome mental health issues.
The psychiatrist is a medical doctor with specialized training in mental health who can assess your symptoms, medical history, and any other factors to make a diagnosis and help you to understand your condition.
You and your therapist can invite a psychiatrist to a meeting. Together you can create a personalized treatment plan addressing both psychological and biological aspects of mental health.
This service is available so that you can get the best possible care!
What is the Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration (PMVC)?
We believe in teamwork, with you at the center of your care. We bring together your therapist, your family doctor, and a psychiatrist to provide you with the most effective treatments. The psychiatrist acts as a consultant, offering advice to your therapist, your medical doctor, and most importantly, to you.
Why is teamwork important?
Easy help
Talk to the psychiatrist with your therapist right there.
Convenience
Get help without leaving your therapist’s office (or your home, if you see your therapist virtually).
Clear communication
Make sure everyone is on the same page.
How does it all work?
Therapist discussion
Your therapist talks to you, and together, you decide if seeing a psychiatrist would be helpful to you. Your therapist explains everything to you and gets your okay to go ahead.
During the consultation
Meet the psychiatrist with your therapist over a video call. Your therapist is always there, focused on you, staying friendly and supportive. Your therapist will also take some time before and during the consultation to speak to the psychiatrist and review your situation.
Consultation report
You will talk about the psychiatrist’s assessment and suggestions with your therapist in follow-up appointments. If you want a copy of the report, you have to ask us directly (your therapist is not allowed to give you a copy or put the report in their records).
We’re here to help you feel better. If you have any questions, just ask your therapist. We’re excited to work with you!
