I have worked in Ottawa in the area of brain/mental health since 2008 and in my own practice since 2013. In 2003, I started my studies in Psychology and Criminology at the University of Ottawa. After graduation in 2007, I provided crisis counseling and referral support to male survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Following this, I returned to the University of Ottawa in 2008 to obtain my Masters in Educational Counselling. In 2009, I provided counselling to youth in residential, secure treatment and school environments. Upon graduation in 2010, I worked as a Crisis Counsellor with a large employee assistance program (EAP). I opened my private practice in April 2013.
My areas of expertise include working with youth (ages 12-17) with brain/mental health, behavioural, learning and social challenges in such areas as: anger management, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, bullying, family difficulties, healthy relationships, sexuality, self-injurious behaviours, suicidal ideation, substance use, trauma, PTSD and ADHD.
I also enjoy working with adults in various areas such as: anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship concerns, family of origin concerns, separation/divorce, grief/loss, parenting support, trauma, PTSD, ADHD and work-related concerns.
I aim to create a warm, safe and mutually respectful environment with my clients. I enjoy working collaboratively with clients using an integrative and eclectic approach tailored to the client’s goals pulling from therapeutic modalities and perspectives such as: psychoanalytic theory, attachment theory, cognitive behavioural therapy, compassion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, the bio-psycho-social model, and family systems among others. Most recently, I have been trained in Somatic Experiencing (SE). SE is a body-oriented approach to the healing of trauma and other stress disorders.
