Hi there, Ameena here! Here is a little about me:
I am a graduate of joint Honours Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Family and Community Social Services and diploma in Social Service Work from the University of Guelph-Humber. I have many certifications under my belt such as Substance Use and Addiction Nursing + Addiction Care and Treatment from the University of British Columbia, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Practitioner, Mindfulness Practitioner (Level 1-3 & Master), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Domestic Violence Risk Assessment and Management, Sex/Porn Addiction, Nutrition, SMART Recovery, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI). I am currently pursuing graduate studies with the aspiration of becoming a Psychologist.
Do you ever feel disconnected from your true self or those around you? Do you struggle to understand and/or communicate your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour? Do you struggle with life skills, stress, anxiety, and/or depression? If so, therapy can be a helpful addition to your self-care and overall well-being.
- Mental Health: Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we experience at some point in our lives. A counsellor can help you understand and communicate your thoughts and feelings better, build motivation, improve self-esteem, as well as develop the necessary tools you need to live the life you want.
- Addiction, Grief & Loss: Many individuals need support through recovery and grief. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few common emotions. A counsellor can help you work through deep-rooted issues, learn to cope in healthy ways, connect you with resources and support you through your journey.
- Relationships: Counselling can be helpful for individuals, couples, and families looking to strengthen and heal their emotional connection in any stage of life. A counsellor can provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for you and/or your loved one(s) to discuss issues and find solutions that can strengthen your relationship together and/or individually.
I am a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) along with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF).
Growing up in environments that did not address mental health made it difficult for me to identify, understand, and support my own struggles with an Islamic upbringing, Indo-Caribbean roots, second-generation South American-Canadian woman identity. This led me to become hyperaware of the stigma and religious/cultural implications of mental health in immigrant and diverse communities around me. I wanted to do more than ‘break the cycle’, and advocate for initiatives. I felt inspired to be a part of the solution. Becoming a mental health professional allows me to show up for myself and the world around me in the most healing, supportive and beautiful ways. I truly believe I have the best job in the universe!

"I don’t even know where to begin, Ameena is a kind hearted, intelligent, understanding, thoughtful person, and most of all, she’s very very good at what she does. I’ve been in therapy with her for over a year, and I can say without a doubt that she has brought me out of a lot of dark days and showed me the way out. She continuously supports my dreams and shows me that even in the impossible, there is always some thing to be grateful for. Thank you Ameena for your continuous hard work! I 110% recommend!!! ♥️"
"Thank you for taking the time to explain my depression to me. Thank you for helping me see that I am in control and I am more than just a label. Thank you for reminding me why I live."
"I did not know how I could continue life after my grandmother passed away, but somehow I did. I honour her memory every day I live and I have you to thank for it. Ameena, from the bottom of my heart thank you."
"You are amazing at what you do. The way you help me reframe and unlearn years of toxic patterns is incredible, you are the guiding light I never knew I needed and now I cannot live without!"
"Ameena helped me answer "Who Am I?" and showed me how to cope as I walked away from an abusive marriage. Now my children and I can live a life full of peace and freedom. Thank you."
"May the path you walk on be paved with gold. I will always remember your warm heart, beautiful smile, and lessons. Just when I thought you couldn't teach an old dog new tricks... you gave me hope, and you taught me how to stay in my own damn boat!"
"You are an incredible listener. I cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for me and my family."
"Thank you for helping me learn how to slow down."
"Ameena is a passionate, intelligent young woman. She is ambitious with goals to improve the mental health of young people and endeavours to introduce mental health education in school curriculums. She is determined, committed and has dedicated herself to enriching the lives of others by continuing to develop her skills in her field. Ameena is a great counsellor and listens with empathy and has a clear sense of direction and purpose. She is a great asset to any organization."
"Ameena, the reason why I think so much of you is not because I was returning you treating me so kindly throughout our sessions and it's not because I was trying to be polite. Nor was it to soften the sting of what happened to me. It was because I think you're a very special person with the rare combination of a razor sharp mind, direction, and a caring heart. You don't run across that stuff every day. I was fortunate enough to run into it when meeting you. You are my hero."
"Ameena has many skills that allow her to reach beyond the core elements of her position. Her willingness to learn, patience, and knowledge is what makes her amazing. She changed my life."
"You are a very smart, warm-hearted, and strong person. I am glad you chose this line of work because you are incredible at what you do. Thank you."
"To my favourite counsellor, Ameena, I want to thank you for everything you have done for me. You are such an amazing, strong, determined woman who knows exactly what she wants. You are one of those "powerhouse" women who I know will change the world one day. It has been an amazing journey so far and I am so lucky to have met you. Every time I see you, you always have a smile and it is so contagious. Never stop being you. You are so kind, and you just want to help everyone you can and that is what I love about you. I hope you get everything in life that you want because you deserve it. You truly are an inspiration to not only myself, but everyone who knows you. I will miss you and all the laughs we have shared, but this is not good bye, this is see you later. Thank you for showing me how to love again."
"I started our sessions as a shy/introverted person. Now I am confident in so many aspects of my life because of your consistent guidance and motivation. I have the tools to take control of my life again."
"Ameena profoundly helped me with utmost mentoring. She takes pride in what she does and does it extraordinarily. She has great patience and listens without interrupting before critically thinking of a resolution. Thank you for all your help Ameena, best regards and wishes as you push forward in your career!"
"Ameena is a joy to have in my classroom as a guest speaker for my high school students every semester. She has a great blend of education and experience. Keep coming back!"
