Donna Gordon graduated with her master’s degree of social work in mental health and health from the University of Toronto and has been in private practice since 2013.
Donna is a registered social worker and enjoys working with youth and adults providing individual, couple, and family therapy. She embraces the value of the therapeutic relationship and provides a relaxed, non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere in her practice. Donna believes that it is a privilege to work alongside clients and that healing is a collaborative endeavor where she assists clients in clarifying their goals for treatment on their journey to wellness. All work is client-centred and purposeful.
Donna specializes in offering a holistic approach that encompasses all aspects of a client’s experience, nurturing an understanding of patterns and obstacles that can impact mental health, health, relationships, and overall well-being. Donna believes in empowering clients to draw upon their own strengths and realize their potential by providing evidence-based interventions to help individuals overcome barriers in order to move forward and thrive.
Donna’s background enables her to be extremely effective and comfortable working with diverse groups of individuals. She brings understanding and experience working with individuals with a wide variety of challenges including the following: mental health – mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and stress related disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, substance related and addictive disorders; relationship challenges; grief and bereavement counselling; health – helping clients and caregivers to enhance their coping capacities related to feelings of loss, grief and role changes, mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, and feelings of anger that often occur after a client experiences significant loss or changes in functional and/or cognitive abilities that will require individual and family adjustments; and working with older adults in the early stages of dementia, including supporting and educating their caregivers . In order to provide the best level of care, Donna continuously engages in evidence-based professional development to improve her practice and to expand the interventions that she offers.
Donna volunteers with several organizations and has served on many professional committees. Currently, she is on the Board of Directors of Wendat Community Support Programs and Chairs the Service Delivery Committee.
Donna lives in Midland with her husband of 26 years and has two adult children. She loves to practice yoga, spends her free time outdoors hiking, and boating on Georgian Bay.
