Amanda’s approach to counselling is eclectic and client-centered. The intent of Amanda’s work is to provide a safe context for clients to share their stories, process and reframe life difficulties, and discover strengths and emotional resources. Amanda aims to offer a down-to-earth, genuine and warm perspective that addresses problematic thinking and inspires personal growth and well-being. This approach is intended to support self-exploration that reveals the client’s own solutions and generates feelings of empowerment.
Amanda has experience supporting people with a vast array of mental health difficulties and co-occurring disorders. Amanda’s approach to counselling is integrative and draws on multiple therapeutic modalities including, brief solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness principles. Amanda tends to operate from a Humanistic Theoretical Model, where optimism and hope are primary themes. Amanda is influenced by Family Systems Theory, Attachment Theory, and Positive Psychology. This means that Amanda offers perspective that considers close personal relationships, life meaning, and the importance of connection and positive emotion. Amanda has completed an Honour’s degree in Psychology as well as Master’s degree in Lifespan Development Psychology. Amanda is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and a member of The Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP).
