My name is Chris Saxby, and I'm a member of the Blue Coast Psychotherapy Team. I’m a both a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Registered Social Worker (RSW), ready to help you improve your mental wellness any way I can. With degrees in Psychology, Nursing, and Social Work, I’m a truly holistic practitioner, seeing people as complex bio-psycho-social-spiritual beings.

In my nursing career, I’ve worked at several hospitals in Emergency Departments (EDs) and Intensive Care Units (ICUs). I’ve also been the Director and Assistant Director of a couple Ontario Long-Term Care Homes. Given this, my nursing specialties are emergency medicine and geriatric care.

As a Masters-trained Social Worker, I’ve run homes for people with Developmental Conditions, worked within the Justice System, and engaged in Personal Counselling at various locations, including Daya, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), King’s University College Student Counselling, and EPIC Recovery (all in London, Ontario). I use a variety of therapeutic modalities in my counselling sessions, including Rational Emotive Therapy (RET) and Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – both offshoots of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I tend to also incorporate elements of Narrative Therapy and Logotherapy into my sessions while utilizing many of the practices inherent to Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Solution-Focussed Interviewing (SFI) as well.

In terms of mental health, my specialties are trauma (esp. childhood trauma), addictions, various psychiatric diagnoses (incl. anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and psychosis) as well as catastrophic injuries like those obtained in Motor Vehicle Collisions. In a recent position at Biigajiiskaan (the mental health branch of Atlohsa Family Healing Services located in the Finch Family Mental Health Building at Parkwood Hospital) I treated many Indigenous people with severe mental health conditions like psychoses and clinical depression. In my current position at EPIC Recovery, I work closely with people struggling to make significant behaviour change related to numerous types of compulsions/addictions, from substances, to gambling, to social media and online gaming.

On the personal front, I have a beautiful daughter named Madeline. Maddie and I spend lots of time together playing with her dog (named Tuna) and watching scary movies – perhaps our favourite pastime. I love to travel (I’ve been to about 25 countries, mostly in Europe and Asia). I even lived in South Korea for a year where I learned to read and write Korean.

As with all people, I’m more than what you see written on this page. Come talk to me at Blue Coast Holistic Psychotherapy if you want to know more or if you think I can help you in any way.
