"The knowledge, skills and judgement required to practice in a sound, ethical and competent manner are beyond what would be attained through completion of a social work degree or a social service work diploma alone." (www.ocswssw.org/registrants/private-practice)

I want you know a bit about me and my professional ethic as a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist, both in my collaborative primary care role and in private practice.

I did not go into private practice immediately following completion of my graduate degree. I have spent close to two decades working as a clinician and I have built a body of knowledge that allows me to feel confident in the work I do in the service of your mental health. This foundation of work is what I now bring to private practice, having had the immense honour of walking along side clients in my practice.

I am a learner and a helper, curious to understand the why and the how of living and healing. Being sensitive to the joy, pain, and discomfort of living beings has always been a part of me, and so my empathy meter is (mostly) always running. I manage myself in my vocation through knitting, meditation, listening to music, and being in or near the lake or ocean. Humour also holds a high value in my life and practice.

I have spent all my working life in health care, including long-term care, spinal cord injury, palliative care, and primary care. For a brief stint, I dabbled in a variety of roles in post-secondary education working with a cross-section of academics, researchers, and professionals. I'm grateful to have been able to hone my skills in all of my roles.

I hope this insight into how I move through the world provides you with the confidence to choose me as your guide.

Success Story

I can't count the number of individuals who have come to me for support during their menopause transition years. I'm proud of the work we do together, teaching folks about menopause symptoms and their impact on mental health. This work has been instrumental in empowering clients to be strong advocates for timely and appropriate care within the healthcare system and the success stories are found in the relief women feel when they are heard and supported through this time of life. It's an honour to be their guide.
